In determining its list of honorees, Washingtonian “sought out people with deep subject-matter knowledge, the ones who understand the nuances and complexities of how and where laws affect business, government, and society.” According to the magazine, these are the expert and advocates outside of the government who will be shaping the policy debates of years to come.

Stegmaier, whose practice focuses on all aspects of data-related innovation, privacy, security and consumer protection issues, was included in the Tech and Telecom section, alongside luminaries such as Jay Carney, SVP, Global Corporate Affairs at Amazon (and former White House Press Secretary); and Michael Powell, President and CEO of NCTA–The Internet and Television Association (and former FCC Commissioner). He is also one of only ten lawyers in private practice to make the list.
