John Ellison, a partner in Reed Smith’s Insurance Recovery Group, has been named a 2021 “MVP” in the Insurance category by Law360. Ellison has been practicing in the insurance coverage area for 30 years on a national and international basis, handling insurance issues related to some of the world’s largest natural and other disasters.
Ellison helped MGM Resorts International and the Mandalay Bay Hotel obtain $751 million in liability insurance coverage in the wake of the 2017 mass shooting at a concert event on the grounds adjoining the hotel. He had two successes on behalf of Phillips 66 in the last 12 months, one of which involved an arbitration award to cover nearly $44 million in settlements of underlying lawsuits involving product liability claims over the gasoline additive MTBE.
