Steven is a seasoned litigator with more than 30 years’ experience representing product manufacturers and other businesses in courts throughout the United States. He has handled and supervised teams of lawyers in thousands of cases and has extensive experience in all aspects of complex litigation — from initial pleadings through jury trial.

Represented a global chemical company as regional counsel in California state court in dozens of lawsuits involving allegedly contaminated talc, handling all aspects of these cases, including acting as trial counsel.

Represented a global chemical company in a commercial dispute involving the purchase of mineral assets and supply of mineral resources.

Acted as national counsel for major wholesale medical product distributor in hundreds of lawsuits in every state alleging that the distribution of opioid-based pain medications violated state and federal law. Led the client’s state court defense in 10 states and coordinated the client’s defense in more than 100 class actions in federal court. Served as trial counsel for the client in a five-month trial in state court where the state attorney general alleged that the distribution of opioid pain medications constituted a public nuisance.

Represented global pharmaceutical manufacturer in California state court in cases involving prescription and over-the-counter antacids.

Acted as national counsel for manufacturer of women’s pelvic health products. Conducted discovery against multiple plaintiffs, deposed dozens of physicians, took multiple expert depositions, worked with defense experts, and engaged in extensive dispositive motion practice.

Represented former owner of major medical device manufacturer in multiple cases involving synthetic bone cement. Acted as trial counsel in seven-week jury trial in state court.

Acted as national counsel for global pharmaceutical company in federal court cases involving Parkinson’s disease medication and allegations of compulsive behaviors caused by taking the medication. Engaged in extensive discovery and motion practice, multiple appeals, and represented the client in two bellwether trials.

Represented major medical device manufacturer in cases involving implanted vein filters. Defeated class certification in class action seeking medical monitoring in California state court and acted as local counsel for cases in federal court.

Acted as national counsel for major medical device manufacturer in cases involving recalled hernia mesh. Engaged in extensive motion practice and represented the client in two bellwether trials in federal court.

Counseled with global manufacturer in connection with supply interruption and recall of nicotine replacement products, including analysis of risk and providing advice on managing recall and related messaging.

Acted as national counsel for global pharmaceutical company in cases alleging kidney and liver injuries in connection with FDA-approved over-the-counter weight control medication. Handled multiple claims and lawsuits and successfully implemented a program to assess each case and reach resolution.

Represented global pharmaceutical manufacturer in commercial dispute following a major supply disruption of active pharmaceutical ingredient for over-the-counter products.

Represented regional physician group in class action alleging the theft of private patient information by an employee. Defeated class certification and successfully defended denial of class cert on appeal.

Represented global pharmaceutical company in multiple cases involving implanted contraceptives, including representing the client in California state court and successfully securing the affirmance of dismissal on appeal in federal court.

Acted as local counsel in California state court for major medical device manufacturer in cases involving metal-on-metal hip devices and allegations of metallosis and other complications.
