Mawere, who focuses on litigating complex commercial matters, works with teams defending against national putative class actions, ranging from class actions related to consumer financial services to biometric class actions under state privacy laws. Mawere also represents clients in complex litigation matters, including fee disputes, trademark disputes, lender liability, consumer fraud, contractual disputes, and violations of federal and state consumer protection statutes. She provides risk management counseling to clients in the garnishments and setoffs space.
In addition to her practice, Mawere is a dedicated advocate for issues of diversity in the industry, having made significant contributions in support of gender diversity within the firm and in the community. She currently serves as the market chair of the diversity, equity and inclusion committee in Reed Smith’s New York office. In that role, Mawere is part of a team developing the New York office’s Racial Equity Action Plan (REAP). She is also on the New York office’s recruiting committee and is part of leadership for the office’s Women’s Initiative Network.
Outside of the firm, Mawere serves on the Junior Board of the Coalition for the Homeless, the nation’s oldest advocacy and direct service organization helping homeless men, women and children in New York City; and on the advisory board of First Step, a job-training program within the Coalition for the Homeless that supports lower-income and homeless women.
