Tyree is chair of the firm’s global Labor and Employment Group and a member of the firm’s Executive Committee. He is a trial lawyer with more than 30 years of experience litigating complex commercial disputes involving anti-discrimination laws pertaining to the employment, housing, consumer finance, and information management sectors. His national practice spans many industries including transportation, financial services, healthcare and defense contracting.
Tyree represents employers in a wide variety of employment-related disputes, including harassment, retaliation, discrimination, wrongful discharge, equal pay and breach of contract litigation and defends them against claims for violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Title VII, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). He also has successfully defended employers in employment class actions and in litigation brought by the EEOC.
Tyree is a highly successful trial lawyer. Clients regularly turn to him to serve as lead trial counsel in high-stakes matters alleging employment discrimination, misappropriation of trade secrets, unfair competition and wage and hour violations following the denial of dispositive motions or class certification. He has successfully tried to verdict, obtained summary judgment or otherwise resolved race discrimination and retaliation claims in California, New York, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C. He also conducts internal investigations of claims involving race and national origin discrimination, sexual harassment, whistleblowing and improper conduct by executives. He provides strategic advice to corporate boards and C-suite executives regarding best practices, corporate governance, enterprise risk management and compliance.
Active in his community, Tyree has served as the Board Chair of the San Francisco Suicide Prevention Society, Wiley Manuel Law Foundation and currently serves on the Board of Directors for Georgetown University; serving on its Audit Committee and as Chair of its Law Center Affairs Committee. Tyree is also Reed Smith’s former Director of Global Diversity & Inclusion, where he utilized his workplace inclusion expertise to lead a firm-wide effort to ensure inclusive talent development, utilization and advancement at Reed Smith.
