Laura-May is an associate in the Global Commercial Disputes Group. Laura-May has worked on a range of commercial disputes advising global companies on claims at the pre-action stage, up to trial. She has experience acting for claimants and defendants and has worked on cases before the Court of Appeal and the High Court.
Laura-May is a member of Reed Smith’s Global Financial Regulatory Group. Laura-May’s practice focuses on financial services regulatory enforcement and related litigation. Her experience includes representing financial institutions and individuals in contentious regulatory proceedings commenced by the Financial Conduct Authority and other regulators, including the European Commission and the UK Competition Authorities. Laura-May has also prepared individuals for appearance in public enquiries.
Laura-May also advises clients on a broad range of regulatory and compliance issues including those relating to regulatory approvals, systems and controls and governance. As an experienced litigator, she has also acted for financial institutions in the English High Court.
Laura-May was seconded to one of the UK’s largest retail banks for over a year, advising the business on issues including PPI, retail consumer litigation and dealings with the Financial Conduct Authority (in a supervisory and enforcement context).
Laura-May’s practice also focuses on insurance recovery. She is a member of the Insurance Recovery Group at Reed Smith. She has extensive experience in acting for Policyholders in a range of disputes with Insurers. Laura-May has represented clients in both arbitration and court proceedings and has particular expertise in coverage disputes involving finance insurance, marine cargo insurance, directors’ and officers’ insurance and reinsurance.
Laura-May has been individually ranked in Legal 500 UK since 2018 for insurance litigation and has been noted a ‘very able associate’ who is ‘always on top of the details and excellent with the clients’.
