Laura-May is Counsel in Reed Smith’s Global Commercial Disputes Group.
As an experienced litigator, she has worked on a range of commercial disputes representing global companies (predominantly Banks) on claims at the pre-action stage right through to trial. She has experience acting for claimants and defendants and has worked on numerous cases before the English Court (in the High Court and Court of Appeal).
Laura-May is a member of the Insurance Recovery Group at Reed Smith. In her insurance recovery work, she acts exclusively for policyholders in a range of disputes with insurers. Laura-May has represented clients in both arbitration and court proceedings and has particular experience in coverage disputes involving finance insurance, marine cargo insurance, directors’ and officers’ insurance and political risk and trade credit insurance.
Laura-May also routinely advises companies on their insurance policy programmes, reviewing policy wordings and providing technical assistance with scope of coverage queries.
Laura-May is regularly individually ranked in Legal 500 UK and Chambers UK for insurance litigation and has been noted as “excellent, with huge potential”, “impressive”, “very able” and “always on top of the details and excellent with the clients.”
As well as having significant insurance recovery and banking litigation experience, Laura-May also advises companies dealing with a broad range of regulatory and compliance issues and has represented financial institutions and individuals in contentious regulatory proceedings before the Financial Conduct Authority.
Laura-May was seconded to one of the UK’s largest retail banks for over a year, where she advised on issues including PPI, retail consumer litigation and dealings with the Financial Conduct Authority (in a supervisory and enforcement context).
