(May 25, 2010, SAN FRANCISCO) – Reed Smith LLP announces the arrival of David T. Pollock as a partner in the Intellectual Property Group.  Mr. Pollock is resident in the firm’s San Francisco office.

He was formerly an IP litigator in the Silicon Valley office of Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, LLP.

“David has extensive courtroom and deposition experience, which are always in demand by our clients,” said Scott Baker, Leader of Reed Smith’s Intellectual Property Practice. “His arrival provides our west coast team another licensed patent litigator to provide clients with support on patent law and technical issues. His expertise in medical imaging and medical device patents adds particular value for our many clients in those industries.”

Mr. Pollock’s practice focuses exclusively on patent litigation and related issues.  Drawing upon his industry experience as an engineer and designer of medical devices, his area of specific emphasis is technologies related to the medical field, including medical imaging, electrosurgery, aneurysm treatments, biopsy devices, stents, and wound closure.  He also has represented clients in matters concerning computer hardware, software, databases and wireless devices and regularly defends clients in multi-defendant cases filed by non-practicing entities.

A member of the Patent Bar, Mr. Pollock is familiar with patent prosecution and regularly employs patent reexamination as part of broader litigation strategy. Prior to becoming an attorney, he practiced as an engineer. He holds 12 U.S. patents.

“I was strongly encouraged by a major client to look at opportunities at Reed Smith,” said Mr. Pollock. “When I did so, I found this firm to be a very good fit with my current clients’ needs, as well as a solid platform for developing and sustaining new client relationships.”

Prior to joining Quinn Emanuel in 2006, Mr. Pollock was an associate at in Weil Gotshal’s Silicon Valley office. He received his J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law in 2001, and his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from University of Alberta in 1991.
