The awards were decided by a panel of judges chaired by Dean Stelfox, general counsel, Dubai World Central. In reviewing the submissions, the judges focused on a single case with a significant Middle East element that set new standards in the delivery of legal services and demonstrates the firm’s market-leading position.
The ceremony was attended by nearly 400 lawyers from in-house legal departments and private practice, and was jointly hosted by Legal Week and the Association of Corporate Counsel Middle East Chapter, and supported by Legal Week’s sister title, The American Lawyer.
Reed Smith was one of the first international law firms to establish a presence in the UAE, and has now been committed to serving clients in the region for almost 40 years. Since opening in Abu Dhabi in 1978 and in Dubai in 2006, the firm’s presence has grown to a team of almost 20 lawyers harnessing local knowledge and global reach to advise clients on all aspects of local and international law.
Reed Smith advises on some of the most high-profile construction disputes and arbitrations in the UAE and globally, and the award is testament to the firm’s growing experience in the region. The award comes on the back of significant developments in Reed Smith’s international arbitration practice following the appointment of José Astigarraga as leader of the firm’s global group, as well as the arrivals of construction and energy disputes Peter Rosher in Paris and international energy and infrastructure finance partner Andrei Baev in London.
