Their addition follows on those of Liz Evans, who joined last week from Dentons; Elan Keller, who joined in April from Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer; Parik Dasgupta, who joined the firm in March from King Wood Mallesons; and Gregg Roberts, who joined in January from Morrison & Foerster. With more than 180 attorneys, New York is Reed Smith’s largest office in the United States.
“Don has an incredible amount of experience with risk assessment in all types of financial institutions, and his addition strengthens our current compliance capabilities. With almost three decades of federal and private-sector experience in litigation, compliance, and risk management, Don offers a unique perspective to financial services clients,” said Ed Estrada, chair of Reed Smith's Financial Industry Group. “Don is also an outstanding complement to our global regulatory offering, especially in connection with the partners who recently joined us in Europe from King Wood Mallesons. The worldwide regulatory environment is constantly evolving and changing, so Don’s in-depth understanding and familiarity with various regulatory regimes will be a great benefit to our clients.”
Andrews advises banks, broker-dealers, asset advisers, hedge funds, mutual funds, private equity firms, trust companies, and investment advisors on domestic and international regulatory matters.
He has successfully worked with regulators of all types, including the OCC, the Federal Reserve, SEC, FINRA, FDIC, and state and international regulatory authorities. His experience covers the entire life cycle of a financial institution, from the early infrastructure and examination preparation phase, to litigation defense. He is an established thought leader in the industry, writing and speaking extensively on a wide range of topics involving regulatory issues.
Commenting on joining Reed Smith and leading the new Risk Management Practice, Andrews said, “I’m excited to be part of a firm with such extraordinary global talent and resources. Reed Smith is truly positioned to become a leader in global risk and compliance for all manner of financial institutions and operating companies.”
Andrews received his J.D. from the Illinois Institute of Technology, Kent Law School; his M.A. from Harvard University; and his B.A. from Elmhurst College. Prior to co-leading the effort at Venable, Andrews was the Global Compliance Director and Director of Risk Management for Bessemer Trust Company, a collection of six banks, two investment advisers, broker-dealer, and alternative asset group with offices in the UK and Cayman Islands. Previously, he served as Chief Compliance Officer at Van Kampen Investments; Deputy General Counsel at EVEREN Securities; and Special Trial Counsel and Branch Chief at the Securities and Exchange Commission.
“Our financial services clients – especially those in New York – consistently need compliance and risk management advice, so Don is a terrific addition to our New York team,” said Cindy Minniti, managing partner of Reed Smith’s New York office. “We have had a number of outstanding attorneys join us here and Don is another stellar addition.”
