There are many immigrants in Los Angeles who are living with HIV and AIDS. Some are undocumented new arrivals, often fleeing persecution in their home countries, and the AIDS Legal Services Project stands by HIV+ immigrants every step of the way. Others have lived here for a long time and contracted HIV in the United States.
David is a steady and unassuming champion of helping those who are in great need of pro bono legal services. David is consistently at the top of the lists of pro bono work done in the Los Angeles office, and is among the highest partner participants. With the assistance of Davina Bernal, Griselda Muñoz, Lizeth Garcia, Socorro Reyes and Maria Carranza, he has handled more than 40 pro bono cases for undocumented victims of crimes who are seeking UVISAS and permanent residency status.
David received one of four awards that were handed out during the 2018 Los Angeles County Bar Association (LACBA) Installation & Awards Reception June 27, 2018. David was nominated for the award by the Counsel for Justice, which is the pro bono wing of LACBA that helps support the AIDS Legal Services Project. Counsel for Justice brings together law firms, foundations, corporations, donors and volunteers in support of a more just Los Angeles. With more than 50 years of service as the charitable arm of LACBA, Counsel for Justice has raised millions of dollars in giving, and has impacted hundreds of thousands of lives with better, more powerful paths to justice.
