“A leader with a range of capabilities, Sarah’s practice spans the full gamut of privacy, cybersecurity and data protection; intellectual property, including global trademarks and copyright; and advertising, marketing and promotions worldwide,” said Anthony J. Diana, co-chair of the firm’s global IP, Tech & Data Group and co-leader of its Information Technology, Privacy & Data Security practice. “Casey brings a different set of skills in the area of international privacy and data law, both in-house and as outside counsel, and we are thrilled to welcome them both to our team.”
Bruno’s practice is a unique cross-section of privacy, advertising and intellectual property areas of law but in today’s landscape the area of privacy is a constant. She counsels in all areas of data security and privacy, including federal and state laws, such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). She works with clients to develop internal compliance programs, including assisting with privacy audits and data mapping, meeting with R&D teams to assist with privacy by design, developing internal and external privacy policies for employees, customers, and contractors, and training on the implementation of DSAR requests. Many of her clients are international, and she regularly advises them on data governance and transfer issues in countries around the world, including assisting clients with navigating the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
“More and more, my practice involves cross-border and international data transfer, IP, and advertising issues, and Reed Smith has the global platform, and the depth and breadth in these practices,” said Bruno. “Reed Smith is also a giant in the advertising space, and we are thrilled to join forces to help offer our clients increased capabilities in the Adtech space. We were also drawn to the firm’s culture of innovation, as well as its commitments to diversity and inclusion.”
Bruno also has extensive experience policing and enforcing her clients’ global intellectual property, with a focus on trademarks, copyrights, and publicity rights. In this capacity, she assists Benefit Cosmetics with the protection strategies for its popular cosmetics brands and packaging. She also works in the amusement park industry with the International Association of Amusement Parks & Attractions (IAAPA) on its IP Program, which provides a forum for its members to be educated on IP rights and resolve conflicts.
Bruno handles a wide variety of marketing and advertising matters, such as developing and implementing all aspects of promotions, auctions, contests, and sweepstakes. Bruno also counsels clients on compliance with a full-range of matters before the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the National Advertising Division (NAD) of the Better Business Bureau, as well as other U.S. and international regulatory regimes.
Bruno serves as a global board member for the International Social Media Association (ISMA), where she lends her experience in social media law to contribute to and actively promote the group’s objectives.
Bruno is a Certified Information Privacy Professional for the United States (CIPP-US) by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), of which she is an active member. A champion of women’s advancement in business and law, Bruno is also an active member of Women in Technology International, and Women in Security and Privacy.
Top ranked by Legal 500, Bruno was named a “Top Cyber Lawyers” for 2019 by the Daily Journal, which also named her a “Top IP Lawyer” for 2018, and, previously, among the “Top Women Lawyers” in California.
Perrino’s practice focuses on data privacy and security counseling, including cross-border data compliance, evaluation and development of privacy programs, and the drafting and review of commercial agreements such as data processing policies, all tailored specifically to her client’s needs, size, and data infrastructure. She is knowledgeable in state, federal, and international privacy laws, including the CCPA and GDPR, as well as anti-spam legislation around the world.
Prior to joining Arent Fox, Perrino was in-house privacy counsel at LinkedIn, where she assisted with privacy and data protection matters, including implementing new policies and processes for GDPR compliance and a company-wide privacy training program. She has also served as a legal intern at the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Privacy Office, where she evaluated programs for compliance with federal privacy laws.
