Having opened in 1980, the firm’s Hong Kong office now has around 100 lawyers and is a key part of Reed Smith’s significant growth across the region. The firm has nearly 150 lawyers across its four offices in Asia: Beijing, Shanghai, Singapore and Hong Kong.
Asha Sharma, Reed Smith Richards Butler’s longest serving partner, commented: "We were among the first international law firms to open our doors in Hong Kong and are now advantageously positioned with around 100 lawyers and a full service offering. Additionally, unlike many firms that encourage a fly in fly out policy, briefly deploying lawyers with little understanding of the cultural nuances of the Asian market, our partners are nearly all from Asia, with the vast majority having trained and qualified at the firm.”
“Our clients also benefit from our longstanding commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. It is thanks to this that over half of our equity partners in Hong Kong are women and more than 90 per cent of our lawyers are bilingual. This provides a diversity of thought that separates us from our competitors and ensures that we can provide the very best advice."
Kyri Evagora, Reed Smith’s Asia managing partner, added: "We are immensely proud of our longstanding history in the region and the strong relationships that we have built with our clients.”
“Of course, the Hong Kong office does not stand alone. It forms a part of the firm’s 30 offices worldwide, which means we can draw on the strength and depth we have across the globe ensuring we can support our clients investing in Asia, and Asian clients as they expand into other global markets.”
