This session will provide an understanding on the various approaches to taxing data extraction by comparing the structures of proposed legislation and the recently enacted Chicago Social Media Amusement & Responsibility Tax. It will further discuss the key policy reasons for and against taxing data extraction as a business input along with discussing legal defenses against data extraction taxes.
