Reed Smith advises Leon Capital on strategic growth investment in VKE Group

LONDON – Global law firm Reed Smith has advised funds advised by Leon Capital LLP on its strategic growth investment in VKE Group, a pan-European data centre infrastructure specialist, to support the company’s continued expansion across Europe.

The investment will strengthen VKE Group’s financial position and support its organic growth plans, operational expansion and strategic opportunities, including investment in people, technical capability, plant and infrastructure. More than €50 million of capital will be injected into the business.

Founded in 2013 and headquartered in London, VKE Group delivers large-scale groundwork foundations, substructures and reinforced concrete frame packages for data centre developments across Europe, as well as commercial real estate projects in the UK. The investment will enable the business to take on larger and more complex projects and expand into new markets.

VKE Group founder Val Shira and the existing leadership team will retain operational control of the business.

Reed Smith advised Leon Capital on the legal aspects of the transaction, drawing on the firm’s private equity and broader sector and practice expertise, including projects and construction, tax, antitrust and foreign direct investment and banking and finance.

The Reed Smith team was led by private equity partner Andrew Houghton and private equity senior associate Karim El-Borhami and included corporate lawyers Selina Cook and Alice Reeve; tax lawyers Harrison Stimson and Sofia Loopuit; antitrust and foreign direct investment lawyers Paul Johnson, Christian Filippitsch, Philippe Heeren and Emma Weeden; real estate lawyers Daniel Kyriakides and Anna Greenfield; banking and finance lawyers Nick Williams and Helen Penwill; projects and construction lawyers Laura Riddeck and Kyle Sethi; pensions lawyer Will Sutton; environmental health and safety lawyer Tallat Hussain; intellectual property and information technology lawyers Nick Breen and Josh Jaskiewicz; and data protection lawyer Tom Gates.
