Brent is dedicated to finding innovative methods to help clients solve their state and local tax issues. His practice focuses on controversy and litigation across all 50 states, with a particular focus on sales and use tax and income tax issues in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and New Jersey. Brent helps his clients tackle questions and issues involving taxability, situs, exemptions, and practical applications (sales and use tax), as well as apportionment, sourcing, deductions, non-business income, and net operating losses (income tax).

Litigated a Pennsylvania corporate net income tax refund claim involving sourcing of receipts from intercompany management services before the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court and Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
Helped to litigate and obtain a favorable decision from the Texas State Office of Administrative Hearings (SOAH) for a taxpayer whose sales to customers were assessed as taxable data processing/information services.
Assists a Fortune 100 company with 50-state sales and use tax audit support, advice, and refund claims, resulting in millions in relief and refunds since 2017. Issues have included: manufacturing; software, software services, and digital products; sourcing; R&D; medical devices; and capital improvements, among others.
