Maria Castro Sanchez is an associate in the Global Commercial Disputes Group and works on an array of litigation and arbitration matters for institutional clients in the banking and credit industries. She represents and advises clients on a variety of commercial litigation, arbitration and consumer disputes, including issues of jurisdiction, enforcement of arbitration provisions, and causes of action under the UCC and EFTA.
Maria also has experience in insurance recovery, including handling liability and property claims for commercial policyholders, and has worked on complex and novel insurance coverage issues including claims for business interruption loss in the COVID-19 context. Maria has experience in litigating both primary coverage disputes and unfair insurance practice and bad faith disputes for the policyholder.
Maria is fluent in both English and Spanish and uses this fluency to provide pro bono aid, including for immigration related aid.
Prior to joining Reed Smith, Maria attended the University of Florida where she was the Executive Symposium Editor of the Florida Journal of International Law. During the summer after her first year of law school, Maria worked as a summer associate in the Anti-trust team of Marval O’Farrell and Mairal, a full-service law firm headquartered in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Maria worked with the University of Florida’s immigration clinic. Maria also volunteered with Volunteer Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
