He has represented corporate, municipal, and individual policyholders in numerous types of insurance coverage and bad faith disputes. He has extensive experience seeking recovery for policyholders under all types of policies, including commercial general liability, directors and officers liability, professional liability, commercial and residential property, and commercial crime. Matt is also active in the firm’s healthcare practice, representing healthcare providers in tort and contact disputes with health insurers stemming from claims underpayment and harmful business practices. He also has an active practice prosecuting insurer bad faith cases on behalf of policyholders, including those seeking punitive damages for an insurer’s wrongful general business practices in both state and federal court.

A native of Dallas, Texas, Matt graduated from Baylor University in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts, and received his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Miami School of Law in 2007. While at Miami, he was an Associate Editor of the Inter-American Law Review, and served on the Executive Board of the Charles C. Papy, Jr. Moot Court Board. He is the recipient of several awards for advocacy, including the Best Brief Award at the Robert Orseck Memorial Moot Court Competition, and was selected as a member of the Order of Barristers. Matt also served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Shelby Highsmith in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

Currently serving as a Vice Chair on the American Bar Association’s Property Insurance Law Committee, Matt is also a member of the ABA’s Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee as well as several other volunteer bar associations. He is admitted to practice before Florida’s state courts, the United States District Courts for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

Matt has been recognized as a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers Magazine every year since 2012.
