Daniel has extensive market experience in Southeast Asia, having been in Singapore since 2010. From 2012, he spent three years as senior in-house counsel with a mining major, where he supported its iron ore, coal, copper and uranium marketing businesses, among others, and assisted with the handling of group-wide disputes. He returned to the arbitration team at Norton Rose Fulbright in 2015, and was recognised by Singapore Business Review as one of Singapore’s most influential lawyers aged 40 and under in 2016.
His industry-focused experience, in both contentious and non-contentious matters, acts to strengthen Reed Smith’s client offering in the commodities sector and is the latest strategic expansion for Reed Smith’s Singapore office, which recently welcomed projects and construction partner Bree Miechel. Reed Smith opened its Singapore office in 2012 and, in 2016, entered into a formal law alliance with Singapore law practice Resource Law LLC, which expanded the firm’s regional offering to more than 30 lawyers in the region.
Reed Smith’s global chair of the Energy & Natural Resources Group, Prajakt Samant, commented: “We are delighted to be growing our ENR team here in Singapore; Daniel is highly rated by our clients in this region and his arrival not only strengthens our client offering in the commodities sector but also reinforces our position as a leading practice in Southeast Asia.” Barry Stimpson, Singapore office managing partner, added: “Daniel’s deep understanding of the commodities sector in Southeast Asia, accompanied by his inhouse experience, will prove highly valuable to our clients in the region. He possesses a rare blend of front-end commercial contract drafting and negotiation, and dispute resolution experience, as an arbitration specialist. We are delighted to welcome Daniel to our growing team in Singapore.”
Daniel Perera said: “I am delighted to be joining Reed Smith at a time when the firm is actively growing its presence in the Southeast Asian region. I look forward to working with an exceptional team of professionals and to continue to build on the firm’s strong track record in the ENR sector.”
