Hosted by Lloyd’s List, an authority on maritime news since 1734, the awards highlight excellence and leadership in the shipping and maritime industry. Reed Smith received the accolade after the firm impressed the judges this year across litigation, finance and advisory work.

Reed Smith partner in the firm’s global Shipping Group and head of casualty, Richard Gunn, who attended the awards ceremony, said: “We are honoured to be awarded the i-law Maritime Law Award and to be recognised as the firm which has offered the best service to the maritime industry over the past 12 months.

“Reed Smith has served the maritime industry since 1925 and has a thriving global shipping practice covering all aspects of shipping and trade, from contentious to transactional work.  Every one of our Group lawyers and staff in our offices in the USA, Europe, the Middle East and Asia has contributed towards this and we are delighted with this accolade.”

In his opening speech, Richard Meade, managing editor of Lloyd’s List, said: “It takes strength, courage and insight to navigate a business through volatile markets, but we have found that leadership in spades this year and tonight we will recognise their achievements. Our winners are the companies and individuals whose success makes for a safer, more environmentally friendly, and a more inspiring industry.”
