Our ongoing partnership with Theirworld and its U.S. 501(c)(3) subsidiary, the Global Business Coalition for Education (GBC-Education), which are committed to help end the global education crisis and unleash the potential of the next generation, supports thousands of children globally to have the best start in life, a safe place to learn and skills for the future.
Partner David Boutcher is a founding member and trustee of Theirworld, and Tamara Box sits on Theirworld’s advisory board. David Boutcher and New York partner Ed Estrada also sit on the executive board of GBC-Education. Personnel in our London and New York offices participate in and support many projects and task forces for these organizations.
David Boutcher also represents the private sector on behalf of GBC-Education at the Global Partnership for Education, which is a multi-stakeholder partnership and global fund hosted by the World Bank and committed to supporting education systems in developing countries to help achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 4 – ensuring inclusive and quality education for all.
Our lawyers provide much-valued pro bono legal services to Theirworld and GBC-Education to support their ongoing operations and activities. These include:
- Contract work for commitments to vital programs like the Digital Learning Early Childhood Education project, which aims to increase access to quality education for vulnerable Lebanese learners and refugee children.
- Helping to draft an agreement for Trauma Informed Schools in Turkey, which will build effective communication between teachers and traumatized children, and help resolve many psychological problems.
- Providing significant support for Theirworld’s flagship project, the Jennifer Brown Research Laboratory, and its work with the University of Edinburgh to discover more about the causes of babies being born early and finding better ways to care for them.
- General legal support on website, employment, GDPR compliance, media and intellectual property matters.
In addition, many of our personnel participate in a variety of fundraising, including our annual Theirworld Quiz, which we have hosted for almost as long as we have partnered with Theirworld. Our annual client quiz nights also raise much-needed funds to support Theirworld in its work. Our guest hosts have included comedians Stuart Goldsmith and Matt Lucas, comedian and impersonator Josh Berry, and television presenter and executive June Sarpong OBE.
