“Ron is a seasoned leader and the Pittsburgh office has benefited tremendously from his experience and judgment, particularly as our workforce shifted to remote working. He has been a strong advocate for our Racial Equity Action Plan, with a focus on building a stronger sense of community and understanding. Ron previously led the firm's U.S. corporate and securities practice in our Hong Kong office and is widely recognized as a leading corporate lawyer,” said Doug Cameron, Reed Smith’s Managing Partner – Americas and a member of the Senior Management Team. “Jason is a proven leader and a natural fit for this role. We are grateful for Ron’s past contributions and for Jason’s enthusiasm in continuing the Pittsburgh tradition of professional excellence, commitment to diversity and exceptional community service.”
Hazlewood joined Reed Smith in 2006. His practice focuses on complex commercial litigation.
“With a 144-year history, Reed Smith is a respected pillar of the Pittsburgh community and enjoys a well-earned stellar reputation within the legal profession. I am honored to be the standard bearer for the firm in the community and continue the work of those who have created our outstanding legacy.”
Hazlewood has identified four core themes for his leadership, including an emphasis on equity of opportunity for all lawyers and personnel; the elevation of the firm’s position in the local community; the promotion of positive corporate citizenship and unity in the region; and the enhancement of the Pittsburgh office’s culture and communications to ensure its personnel and practices emerge from the current pandemic stronger than ever
“After COVID-19 is under control, there is likely to be a ‘new normal’ in the workplace,” Hazlewood said. “I am dedicated to ensuring our office incorporates and benefits from everything we have learned over the past year to build even closer and stronger client relationships while keeping client service at the forefront of our mission.”
Hazlewood has had significant leadership responsibility in his career to date. He was a member of the Leadership Pittsburgh Class XXXIV; served a term on the firm’s Executive Committee, where he championed the concerns and interests of his firmwide colleagues; served two summers as Chair of Reed Smith’s Summer Associates Committee; and was selected as a Leadership Council on Legal Diversity Fellow, a prestigious professional program for diverse, high-potential attorneys.
Hazlewood’s principal community service commitment is mentoring junior lawyers at Reed Smith and other law firms across Pittsburgh, as well as local law students. “I have been the beneficiary of a tremendous amount of mentoring and investment, and therefore, I owe a great deal and have a duty to pay it forward.” he said. “I am engaged both with formal mentoring programs sponsored by organizations such as the Leadership Council for Legal Diversity as well as informally working with young lawyers and law students.
A 2004 graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law, Hazlewood’s community service includes terms on the boards of Neighborhood Allies, The Pennsylvania Economy League of Greater Pittsburgh, The Design Center, and Washington & Jefferson’s Alumni Executive Council.
