Dr. Richard Brown is a registered patent agent and a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property Group. Dr. Brown has more than 15 years of experience in Intellectual Property matters. He focuses on the preparation and prosecution of domestic and foreign patent applications in a variety of disciplines including bioactive molecules, chemical processes, polymers and medical devices. Rick also performs patent searching and analyses regarding patentability, invalidity and product clearance.
After receiving his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Rick joined E. I. du Pont as a corporate research scientist. His experience in that role included basic discovery research and process development in agricultural chemicals. While at E.I. du Pont Rick transitioned from the lab bench to the intellectual property group. As a member of the intellectual property group at du Pont, Rick prepared and prosecuted patents in the areas of agricultural products and polymers. Rick also worked closely with in-house lawyers on freedom-to-operate analyses and design around counseling. Rick has authored a number of scientific articles and is a named inventor on several U.S. and foreign patents and applications.
