Before transitioning to appellate practice, David was a trial court litigator defending medical device and pharmaceutical companies in product liability and mass tort litigation. He continues to work side-by-side with trial lawyers in all fields to develop litigation strategy and prepare dispositive motions, trial briefs, motions in limine, jury instructions, and post-trial motions—all geared toward maximizing success on appeal.

David repeatedly has been selected to the Northern California Super Lawyers list in Appellate Law.

David is a member of the California Lawyers’ Association Committee on Appellate Courts and a past chair of the Appellate Section of the Bar Association of San Francisco. He is a frequent lecturer and author on appellate practice and procedure, and serves on the Clinical Faculty of Stanford Law School's Trial Advocacy Program. David devotes a significant portion of his practice to pro bono representating immigrants seeking asylum and leads the firm’s Ninth Circuit Pro Bono Team.
