Joe focuses his practice on both transactional and litigation matters involving complex loans and structured transactions. He regularly represents private equity funds, asset managers, financial institutions, public and private corporations, family offices, high-net-worth individuals, and other investment vehicles in complex domestic and cross-border investment and financing transactions, focused on real estate, finance, and creditors’ rights matters, including distressed and special situations enforcement actions. This includes the structuring, acquisition, and disposition of real estate and other asset-backed loans and investments, as well as other highly structured special situation transactions across a wide range of industries and sectors. Joe has advised on and closed hundreds of investment transactions worth billions of dollars.
Joe rejoined Reed Smith in July 2019 after serving for nearly a decade as the General Counsel, Chief Operating Officer, and Head of Asset Management of a New York-based investment adviser, where he was responsible for the diligence, structuring, and acquisition of all portfolio investments, heading the asset management team responsible for portfolio investments, as well as structuring and closing multiple investment vehicles based in the United States and the Cayman Islands, along with dozens of specialty vehicles. Joe also served as Chief Compliance Officer, responsible for regulatory considerations in both domestic and non-U.S. jurisdictions.
