At the trial court level, Kasey’s practice focuses on complex commercial litigation and interjurisdictional disputes, representing both plaintiffs and defendants. As a direct result of his efforts, Kasey’s clients have recovered tens of millions of dollars and successfully defended claims alleging hundreds of millions of dollars in damages.
At the appellate level, Kasey has authored more than one hundred appellate briefs and personally argued over thirty appeals. Had has handled appeals in the California Supreme Court, every California Court of Appeal, the Supreme Courts of four other states, and four different United States Circuit Courts. Kasey has also secured more than a dozen published, precedential appellate decisions.
Kasey has won numerous awards and accolades during his career. Legal 500, the world's largest legal referral guide (which provides independent and unbiased commentary on lawyers), reports that clients have called Kasey “very reliable” and commented that he “possesses ‘excellent legal and negotiation skills’ and is ‘very clear in his legal analysis.’” In 2019, the California Daily Journal named Kasey in its Top 40 Under 40.
Prior to joining Reed Smith, Kasey spent a year working for the Ninth Circuit where he served as a judicial clerk to the Honorable Johnnie B. Rawlinson. As a former Ninth Circuit clerk, Kasey understands how judges approach cases and has tailored his approach to brief writing and advocacy accordingly.
