April 8, 2015 – Reed Smith today announced the addition of George D. Pavlenishvili as a partner in its Corporate & Transactional Advisory Group (CTAG) in New York. He was formerly a partner in the Energy Group at Stoel Rives LLP in Washington, D.C.

“George has a wealth of experience in energy transactions, structured transactions, M&A and project finance,” said John Martini, Practice Group Leader of Reed Smith’s Corporate Transactional Advisory Group. “He has also been an investment banker, and served in the Enforcement Division of the SEC. His strong technical skills, along with well-established relationships in key industries and with key clients will be exceptionally valuable to the firm and its clients.”

Pavlenishvili counsels U.S and foreign financial institutions, project entities and governmental authorities in project finance, structured transactions and financings, as well as acquisitions and divestitures. Before joining Stoel Rives, he practiced at DLA Piper in New York and worked at high-profile investment banks including Goldman Sachs, Citigroup and Cantor Fitzgerald.

“Reed Smith’s cross-border platform is a very valuable resource for building a broad, collaborative practice in an increasingly global corporate and securities market,” said Pavlenishvili. “Moreover, a top-tier energy practice today requires the support of a firm that can transact business anywhere with immediate access to effective backup from experienced partners in other disciplines. Reed Smith brings all that and an entrepreneurial culture to the table, including a focus on client service that is second to none. I’m delighted to return to New York as a member of this firm.”

A 2006 graduate of LL.M. program at Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University and the 1998 graduate of Odessa Law Academy, Odessa, Ukraine , Pavlenishvili represents financial institutions, developers, and equity investors in relation to corporate and finance, including project finance and mergers and acquisitions, with particular emphasis on energy transactions.

In addition to holding an MBA in financial management from Lubin School of Business, Pace University, he is fluent in Russian and Ukrainian.

With global project finance experience -- including the representation of project sponsors, developers, commercial banks, investment banks, underwriters, sovereigns, and borrowers in diverse transactions involving industrial development projects, infrastructure, natural resources, mining, manufacturing, transportation, and energy -- Pavlenishvili is exceptionally qualified for his new role at Reed Smith. His experience with mergers and acquisitions is also broad, extending to representation of acquirers, targets, and investors in public and private mergers and acquisitions, leveraged buyouts, and acquisition financing. In addition, he has extensive experience with energy and power that encompasses solar, wind, biofuel, coal and gas-fired facilities.

“I’m delighted to welcome George to our office,” said Douglas Wood,” Reed Smith’s New York Office Managing Partner. “He’s a multi-talented lawyer, with a perspective shaped by a broad history in corporate and finance work, as well as by cultural, social and political factors that will further enhance our diversity and expand the way we look at worldwide energy resources and key areas of global finance. His interests and skills are a great fit for the firm as well as our strong transactional team here.”
