NEW YORK – Reed Smith labor and employment partner Mark Goldstein has been named as an American Lawyer 2021 Northeast Trailblazer, which recognizes legal professionals in the northeastern United States who have moved the needle in the legal industry and are truly change agents.

The American Lawyer selected Goldstein for his advocacy relating to mental health issues in the legal industry, including publishing several articles about his experience dealing with mental health and the stigma that surrounds it within the industry. He also frequently speaks on these issues at bar association, industry group, and other large events. In September, the New York Law Journal profiled Goldstein as a New York Trailblazer and in late 2020 he was named partner chair of Reed Smith’s Mental Health Task Force, designed to advise the firm on policies and practices, educational programming, services, resources, and awareness raising around issues of mental well-being.

When asked how his tireless advocacy has brought about change, Goldstein responded “Slowly but surely, we are witnessing a proverbial sea change in the legal profession as it relates to the perception of mental health issues. With continued discourse and openness from those of us who do or have struggled, we will continue to break down barriers and eradicate stigma.”
