Reed Smith News Flashes

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC or Commission) has convened listening sessions regarding the creation of its Office of Public Participation (OPP). During these sessions, FERC will solicit public comment on how the Commission should establish and operate OPP.

FERC will hold the following remaining listening sessions on the indicated dates:

  1. tribal governments (March 24, 2021); and
  2. energy consumers and consumer advocates (March 25, 2021).

Previous listening sessions were held regarding landowners and communities affected by infrastructure development and environmental justice communities and tribal interests.

FERC has asked participants to consider a number of issues including how OPP should be structured, whether an OPP advisory board should be created, and how OPP should engage with members of the public who are affected by Commission proceedings.

On April 16, 2021, FERC Commissioners will lead an all-day workshop on the topic. FERC encourages submission of written comments by Friday, April 23, 2021. These comments should be filed at Docket No. AD21-9-000.
