James has comprehensive experience representing clients throughout all stages of litigation. His ability to synthesize wide ranging facts into a cogent legal strategy is based in part upon his quantitative, data-driven approach. James leads negotiations with opposing counsel, conducts depositions of both fact and expert witnesses, collaborates with retained experts, and manages discovery in numerous cases in federal and state court, as well as in arbitrations. James also authors substantive briefs, including on motions for summary judgment and motions to dismiss.
James represents payors and third-party claim administrators in a wide variety of matters. He has significant experience representing managed care organizations in disputes concerning the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), provider reimbursement, proper coding of medical services, and fraud, waste, and abuse claims. He has also counseled clients on compliance with state and federal regulations of health benefits coverage.
James has dedicated his time to pro bono work, including prisoners’ rights and asylum cases. During law school, James represented members of the community through the Abrams Environmental Law Clinic at the University of Chicago, where he advocated for greater protections of water quality.
