Bartek is an associate in the Energy & Natural Resources Group and has a wide range of experience in the international trade and commodities sector. Bartek’s practice focuses on both contentious and transactional matters relating to the sale, purchase, storage and transportation of a broad spectrum of hard and soft commodities, including in particular oil, base metals and agricultural goods.
Bartek is experienced in handling disputes relating to performance of a wider range of commercial contracts. His experience covers international arbitrations under a variety of regimes and English Court cases. Bartek focuses on achieving practical results for clients, and often assists them with securing actual recovery, including by obtaining freezing orders or through contempt proceedings. Bartek also often helps clients with early resolution of potential disputes, by advising on how best to exercise their contractual rights and by negotiating commercial settlements.
Bartek’s transactional experience includes work on general terms and conditions, template contracts and bespoke agreements for the sale, purchase, tolling/refining, transportation and storage of a wide variety of commodities (oil, copper, iron ore, precious metals and agricultural goods). Bartek also worked on preparing a number of complex long-term offtake agreements at various levels of the supply chain.
In 2017, Bartek completed a five-month secondment to one of the world’s largest multinational mining companies, spending time at both its London and Singapore offices. Bartek was working closely with the business, tax, compliance, treasury and credit teams, and provided coverage to desks trading coal, iron ore, copper, nickel and platinum group metals. Bartek dealt with both contentious and transactional issues, as well as taking an active role in preparation of new governance and risk policies and the company’s regulatory compliance practices, including in respect of new EMIR obligations.
