Charlie has substantial experience in all aspects of commercial real estate, including development, financing, sales, acquisition and exchanges, leasing, and property management.
His practice emphasizes commercial leasing, and extends to all phases of office, retail, commercial, and industrial lease transactions, including originations, leasehold financings, transfers and subleases, renegotiations, "workouts" and enforcement actions. Charlie has decades of experience developing lease documentation for office buildings, retail centers and industrial projects; handling complex lease negotiations for landlords and tenants in a vast array of settings, including build-to-suits, sale-leasebacks, lease-equity and lease-purchase arrangements, and hotel, office and retail ground leases; renegotiating and restructuring anchor tenant leases in the context of expansion, renovation and redevelopment of projects; and analyzing and enforcing rights and obligations under existing leases.
He has been a program lecturer for the California Continuing Education of the Bar and the International Counsel of Shopping Centers, and a guest lecturer for the Arizona State Bar and Hastings College of Law. In 2004, Charlie was named one of the Bay Area’s Top Attorneys – Real Estate by The Recorder. He has also consistently been selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America© and has been selected to the Northern California Super Lawyers list since 2005.
