Each year, our State Tax team volunteers at tax time to help low-to-moderate-income individuals with their income tax returns and, if they qualify, obtain the benefit of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). The EITC is one of the largest cash benefit programs in the United States, but it is administered through tax refunds.

That means eligible individuals must file a tax return - which of course can be a daunting task for them - so that’s where we come in.

We volunteer through a Philadelphia-based non-profit called The Campaign for Working Families Inc. (CWF). Last year alone, CWF volunteers helped over 48,000 individuals with their tax returns and helped them obtain over $45 million in tax refunds.

The average income of the individuals served by CWF volunteers last year was under $23,000. We usually volunteer in person, but this year - due to COVID-19 precautions and limitations - we’ll be volunteering from home through CWF’s online platform.

We hope you will join us in this effort this year!

Anyone can participate (you don’t need to be a lawyer or CPA), but interested volunteers must attend a training session. Reed Smith is “virtually” hosting a training session, and here are the details:
