Reed Smith has assisted long-standing client EnerSys, a leading global manufacturer of batteries for industrial applications, in its high-profile $750 million acquisition of the Alpha Technologies Group of Companies, a leader in complementary energy solutions for the broadband, telecom, renewable and industrial sectors.

The acquisition will transform EnerSys’ business significantly by dramatically expanding its footprint in the broadband, telecom, renewable and industrial markets, establishing EnerSys as the leading integrated complete power solution provider for broadband, telecom and energy storage systems.

The acquisition was announced on Monday and is expected to be completed within the next 30 to 60 days.

Reed Smith represented EnerSys jointly with Holland & Knight. London- and Washington, D.C.-based partner Leigh T. Hansson, who heads Reed Smith’s International Trade & National Security team, was part of the Reed Smith cross-border deal team at the firm, which includes partners James R. Tandler in New York, Debra H. Dermody in Pittsburgh, and New York associate Joy Zhang, with support from Peter Teare in London.
