Finlay is an associate in Reed Smith’s Energy & Natural Resources Group. Based in our Dubai office, Finlay is a regulatory and disputes lawyer, focused on advising clients in the energy, commodities, and shipping sectors.
Finlay advises on contentious and non-contentious sanctions issues, primarily involving the impact of UK, EU, and U.S. sanctions, and regularly acts for clients in sanctions delisting applications across many jurisdictions.
His clients include oil majors, national oil companies, owners, charterers, brokers, ship managers, commodity traders, insurers, banks, and other financial institutions.
He has extensive experience advising both local and international companies in complex and multi-jurisdictional litigation and international arbitration proceedings, particularly in the shipping, construction, and energy sectors.
Finlay has advised on arbitrations seated in London, Paris, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Doha involving a range of international and regional arbitration rules including the ICC, LCIA, DIFC-LCIA, ADCCAC, and DIAC.
Finlay previously worked in the Marine & International Trade practice of an international law firm in Dubai, and at a prominent London firm handling complex fraud disputes involving money laundering, tax evasion, and embezzlement.
