Max’s principal focus is advocating for the interests of his policyholder clients and maximizing their insurance recoveries. Max’s experience counseling policyholders runs the gamut from litigating and arbitrating major coverage disputes to advising on insurance placement and renewals. He represents policyholders in matters involving COVID-19, comprehensive general liability (CGL) policies (including claims arising out of asbestos and environmental liabilities), cyber coverage, directors’ and officers’ (D&O) coverage, employment practices liability insurance (EPLI), professional liability/errors and omissions (E&O) coverage, representations and warranties (R&W) insurance, marine cargo insurance, and first-party property and business interruption claims.
Max is experienced in all stages of state and federal court litigation and in domestic and international arbitration, including with AAA, ICDR and ICC arbitrations. He has successfully led matter investigations, managed complex document collections and productions, and conducted fact and expert witness depositions and examinations at trial. His capabilities include a strong oral advocacy and motions practice, advising clients in responding to subpoenas and counseling clients through settlement. Max has also strengthened his insurance recovery practice with experience in commercial litigation, including representing clients in commercial contract and warranty matters, and defending both toxic and non-toxic product liability cases.
Prior to joining Reed Smith, Max practiced in the Pittsburgh office of an international law firm, where he represented companies in a wide range of insurance and commercial related disputes. Max is also an alumnus of City Year Boston, an AmeriCorps program dedicated to helping students and schools succeed in low-income areas. Max currently serves on the board of directors of the Midwife Center for Birth & Women’s Health, and is the Co-Chair of the LGBTQ+ Task Force for Temple Emanuel of South Hills.
