The firm was named the winner in the private equity category for its role advising Graphite Capital, a leading UK mid-market private equity investor, on the sale of Micheldever Tyre Services to Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd (SRI) for £215 million. The sale was made for £215 million, 3.7 times the original investment made by Graphite in 2006.
Reed Smith’s private equity and financial services teams worked together to transition the matter from KWM in January, harnessing cross-practice expertise to complete the acquisition. The team was led by Reed Smith private equity partner Laura Brunnen and private equity senior counsel Martin Bowen, alongside finance partner Nick Williams and corporate associates Nikki Delaney and Dan Mulligan.
Duncan Wilkes, CEO at MTS, commented:
"Not only did Laura and her team do an outstanding job of supporting us throughout every element of the transaction and making a substantial contribution to achieving an outcome that delighted both Graphite and the management team, they did so while remaining calm and focused on us throughout and without there being any sign that the problems at KWM were having any impact on them or on their work with us. Clearly this was a major achievement and demonstrated not just the skill and commitment of the people involved but also leadership and professionalism beyond the normal."
The awards were received on Thursday 30 November at a glittering ceremony held at Finsbury Square, London.
