Sophie is a digital media expert with over 15 years’ experience as counsel to media and technology industries. Brussels born, French qualified as a lawyer and based between Paris and London, Sophie balances technical legal experience – in Contract, Copyright, IT, Data and European law – true commercial insight and cutting edge knowledge of developments in the tech sector. Sophie practices both in London and Paris. She leads Reed Smith’s Entertainment and Media Industry practice in Paris.
Sophie focuses, in particular, on all issues shaping the future of the media industry from a technological, commercial, legal but also from a policy making standpoint. Her practice stretches from advising the largest players in the market to cutting edge start-ups in digital music, audio-visual, VOD, games, AI, audiobooks, podcasts, data and AR/VR, to navigating the Digital Single Market Strategy, the European regulation of the technology sector and the intricacies of EU law.
Sophie specialise in European and International Copyright law (as well as French copyright law) which she teaches, speaks and writes about on a regular basis. Sophie is a regular moderator and speaker at conferences on music, technology and the future of the media industry. She has also been acting for the European Commission to moderate a cross-sector consultation on future EU Funding Programmes in music.
Sophie spent 7 years in-house (at various record companies, music streaming services and Getty Images) acting as business and legal affairs. She has significant expertise in the music and image business, music law and dealing with European collecting societies.
