Multidistrict litigation (MDL) offers a path to resolve large, high-stake matters. MDLs dominate the federal court system— comprising over half the federal civil docket nationwide—and many states have MDL- like procedural devices to resolve complex disputes.

More recently, judges and practitioners have called for increased diversity among counsel appointed to highly sought-after MDL leadership positions. This panel will discuss the nuts and bolts of, and recent trends in, MDLs including factors driving when to seek (or avoid) an MDL, strategies for successfully creating, managing and resolving an MDL, and efforts to increase the number of diverse attorneys leading MDLs.
