(June 17, 2010, Chicago) – Reed Smith LLP today announced the addition of three partners from Neal Gerber & Eisenberg. Dan Hofmeister, David Goodsir and Kevin Tessier have joined Reed Smith’s Chicago office and have brought their nationally recognized health care/managed care, commercial litigation and insurance recovery practices to the firm.

“This team is a perfect match for our Chicago office and the firm’s international health care, litigation and insurance recovery practices,” said Carolyn Rosenberg, a member of the firm’s Executive Committee and a partner in the Chicago office. “We have known them for many years since they share several key Reed Smith clients; we know their work to be first-rate, and their client-focused approach mirrors Reed Smith’s valued relationships with its clients. We’re confident that the combined forces of these three partners with Reed Smith will provide our clients with strengthened and expanded capabilities.”

Dan Hofmeister was the Chair of Neal Gerber’s Health Law Practice and a member of its Directors’ & Officers’ Insurance and Litigation Practices. His primary focus is on health care/managed care and litigation, where he represents many of the country’s premier health insurers, including numerous Blue Cross Blue Shield Plans, in jurisdictions across the country. He also serves as national insurance coverage counsel and regional counsel for numerous and varied health care and managed care companies, bio-technology entities, and commercial clients.

“Reed Smith’s outstanding and globally recognized reputation in health care, insurance recovery and commercial litigation makes this a stellar opportunity for our team,” Mr. Hofmeister said. “The expanded geographic platform and unmatched resources of the firm mean that we will have the ability to provide even more services to our clients in more locations. We want to be where our clients need us, and the Reed Smith platform and approach allows us to do that.”

Before joining Neal Gerber in 2002, Mr. Hofmeister was a partner in the Chicago office of Quarles & Brady. He is a 1990 graduate of Loyola University of Chicago School of Law. In 1987, he received his B.A. in journalism from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

David Goodsir was formerly a partner in Neal Gerber’s Health Law Litigation, General Litigation and Directors’ & Officers’ Insurance Practices. He has broad complex business litigation experience, including litigation and arbitrations involving insurance coverage, health law, real estate transactions, contract disputes, fraud/RICO claims, shareholder and partnership disputes, class actions and antitrust law.

Mr. Goodsir’s practice has a particular emphasis in insurance coverage matters representing policyholders in disputes with foreign and domestic insurers involving general liability, professional liability, errors & omissions, directors’ & officers’ liability, managed care liability and business interruption coverage. He has represented policyholders—at both large, publicly held companies and smaller private companies—in the health care/managed care, transportation and other industries. He has also handled complex insurance matters in chapter 11 bankruptcies.

Before joining Neal Gerber, Mr. Goodsir was a partner at Freeborn & Peters in Chicago. He received his J.D. in 1991 from Loyola University of Chicago School of Law, where he was editor-in-chief of the Loyola Consumer Law Review, as well as a member of the Loyola Law Review and the Jessup International Moot Court Team. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in economics.

Kevin Tessier was also a partner in the Litigation and Health Law Practice Groups of Neal Gerber. His practice spans a variety of complex commercial litigation matters in both state and federal courts, with an emphasis on health care/managed care litigation, breach-of-contract actions, subrogation, insurance coverage disputes and other commercial litigation matters. Mr. Tessier has provided counseling and litigation representation to many of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Plans throughout the country.

A 1996 cum laude graduate of Indiana University School of Law, Mr. Tessier previously served as a staff attorney for the Illinois Supreme Court, as a law clerk for Justice James D. Heiple of the Illinois Supreme Court, and as an associate at O’Hagan Smith & Amundsen, before joining Neal Gerber in 2003. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Redlands with a B.A. in 1992.

“Dan, David and Kevin are three of the premiere health care/managed care and insurance recovery litigators in the Midwest region and beyond,” said Michael LoVallo, Reed Smith’s Chicago Managing Partner. “Many of us in this office already know them, have worked with them, and have admired and appreciated their legal acumen. It is pleasure to have them join us.”
