(August 2, 2012, Washington, D.C.). Reed Smith LLP today announced the arrival of senior data security and technology attorney, Timothy J. Nagle in the Global Data Security, Privacy & Management Practice in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office.

Mr. Nagle joins Reed Smith from Bank of America where he was Assistant General Counsel and advised the chief information security officer and business units such as online banking, credit card issuing, and corporate banking on matters related to network security, procurement, background screening, privacy and business continuity. Prior to his global financial services experience, Mr. Nagle managed a software development and technology program andwas a Director of Information Security at Northrop Grumman Corporation.

Before entering the corporate sector, he was an Associate General Counsel at the National Security Agency, where he served as legal advisor to the NSA’s Director of Information Systems Security. Mr. Nagle continues to engage with various government agencies and maintains a security clearance.

Mr. Nagle has been a policy advisor on enterprise information security and privacy standards and practices , including compliance with the Gramm Leach Bliley Act (GLBA) and related regulatory guidance, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA), and the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards. He has also been an integral team member for investigations in the areas of electronic/cyber forensics, misuse or compromise of confidential information, credit card mass compromise, sophisticated fraud activity, and privacy breaches, coordinating investigation and response with federal and local law enforcement and other government agencies.

Mr. Nagle earned his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School in 1986, and his LL.M. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1990. He also earned a Certificate in Information Systems from Johns Hopkins University in 2000; and is a 1979 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and a former military officer.
