“The firm is committed to expanding our capabilities in IP/IT transactions,” said Matthew Petersen, co-chair of the Global Corporate Group. “Peter has an impressive background, with substantial experience leading technology transactions and advising on a wide range of mergers, acquisitions, spinoffs, financings and other complex deals.”
Emmi is the fifth recent addition to Reed Smith’s Global Corporate Group. Other recent joiners include Julia Boyd in New York, Julia Zhu-Morelli in Los Angeles, Hope D’Oyley-Gay in Princeton and Moshe J. Kupietzky in Century City.
Emmi was previously at Akin Gump for the past two and a half years. Prior to that he was an IP attorney for Cravath, Swaine & Moore. Before beginning his legal career, Emmi was a lead negotiator for IP licenses and agreements in IBM’s Intellectual Property & Licensing Group in the company’s headquarters. In addition, he has more than 15 years of experience as an engineer and engineering manager in IBM’s former Microelectronics Division, including card-level electronics design and testing, software development, and semiconductor research and development.
“Reed Smith has a large, collaborative and entrepreneurial group of seasoned attorneys in the IP/IT transactional group,” Emmi said. “With my expansive background and acumen in technological M&A, the firm is an extremely good fit and perfectly aligned with the focus of my career.”
Emmi received his J.D., cum laude, from Pace Law School in 2004. He received a B.S in electrical engineering, with a minor in management in 1988, and a master’s degree in electrical engineering with a certificate in microelectronics manufacturing in 1990 from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
“The firm’s clients in the IT, IP and other technology industries have complex needs, including transactional matters and software and data licensing work,” said Cindy Schmitt Minniti, office managing partner of the firm’s New York office. “Peter brings an incredible depth of knowledge and experience that will really bolster our offerings to companies in multiple sectors. We are thrilled that he has joined Reed Smith.”
