Lane was formerly a partner in the Dallas office of Husch Blackwell, and before that was an attorney for the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Lane regularly advises domestic and international clients on buy- and sell-side mergers, divestitures, asset acquisitions, going-private transactions, debt and equity offerings and corporate governance. He also counsels private equity and venture capital fund sponsors on all aspects of fund formation, capital raises and investment adviser compliance, often serving as outside general counsel. His experience working in the Division of Corporation Finance of the SEC has made him a trusted advisor on SEC compliance and reporting matters. In addition, his ability to navigate U.S. capital market regulations and negotiate the most complex commercial transactions makes him an invaluable resource to his clients.

A 2012 LL.M. graduate of Georgetown University Law Center, Lane earned both his J.D. and M.B.A. from Texas Tech University in 2009. He is well-versed in the complex issues of the financial services and technology industries in Texas and across the U.S. and counts among his clients businesses with operations all around the world. He also has deep experience in the energy industry, where he has counseled some of the world’s largest utility and power companies on a wide range of commercial transactions and SEC compliance.
In addition, Lane, a U.S. Army veteran, has a passion for helping his fellow veterans. He currently has several pro bono cases pending on their behalf against the U.S. Department of the Army. Among his recent high-profile matters was the representation of Army Lieutenant Emily Vorland, who was retaliated against and given a dishonorable discharge for reporting a superior officer for sexual harassment during her deployment in Iraq. Lane’s team successfully obtained an upgrade in Emily’s characterization of service to Honorable, a retroactive promotion and an award of back pay for the rest of her active duty service obligation.
In addition to his legal support of veterans, Lane is managing editor for the American Bar Association’s online publication Business Law Today, where he oversees content for Mergers & Acquisitions, Joint Ventures and International Law. He has served on the Steering Committee of the State Bar of Texas Office of Minority Affairs Texas Minority Counsel Program since 2016, and he is a 2019 graduate of Leadership Dallas, a program of the Dallas Chamber of Commerce that develops future leaders of Dallas.

Lane is the third partner to join Reed Smith’s Global Corporate Group in the past month. Tadaski Okamoto joined from Morrison & Foerster on Oct. 8 and Sandy K. Feldman joined on Oct. 23 from K&L Gates. Both Okamoto and Feldman are in the firm’s New York office.
Reed Smith opened its Dallas office in May 2019 with eight partners and eight other lawyers. In the five months since, it has actively recruited experienced lawyers, including Elizabeth Brandon as a partner in its Global Commercial Disputes Group, Paulo McKeeby and Michael Correll as partners in its Labor & Employment Practice, and Jorge Gutierrez as a partner in its Energy & Natural Resources Group.
