The consortium has acquired the club from St James Holdings Limited, being a company owned and controlled by Mike Ashley.

The Reed Smith team that advised the Reuben Brothers Group on the acquisition and negotiated shareholder arrangements between the consortium was led in London by Global Corporate Group partner Mike Young, supported by senior associates Daryl Cue and Matthew Bowen.

Young commented: “We are very pleased to have supported Jamie Reuben and the broader Reuben Brothers Group in respect of another material transaction. After extensive negotiations between the parties since 2020, completion of the takeover represents an exciting new chapter for the club.”

The Reuben Brothers are longstanding clients of Reed Smith, with the firm previously advising on the purchase of the famous Burlington Arcade, and the acquisition of multi-let office premises at 27 Knightsbridge, London.

Reed Smith’s Global Corporate Group covers all aspects of corporate and commercial law and spans the firm’s 30 offices.
