LONDON – Reed Smith has been shortlisted for three of its projects in the “Pro Bono Initiative of the Year” category at The Lawyer Awards 2023. These projects are helping refugees from Ukraine and Afghanistan, as well as victims of domestic abuse in the United Kingdom. Award winners will be announced on June 20

Every year, the Lawyer Awards honour top-notch lawyers and powerhouse firms in the United Kingdom. The winners are chosen by a panel of judges from the Bar, private practice, and in-house sectors.

This year, Reed Smith has been shortlisted for three of its flagship pro bono projects in the UK:

  • Ukraine Refugee Project. Reed Smith, in collaboration with Safe Passage and other City law firms, is supporting refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine and in need of legal advice, support, and representation, particularly to those Ukrainian refugees who want to resettle in the UK.
  • Domestic Abuse Response Alliance. Reed Smith is providing pro bono legal advice and representation to survivors of domestic abuse in need of protective injunctions. Reed Smith is one of DARA’s founding law firms.
  • Afghan Pro Bono Initiative. Reed Smith, in collaboration with Safe Passage, Refugee Legal Support and 13 other City law firms, is supporting Afghan individuals in need of legal advice, support and representation as they try to find safe routes to sanctuary.

At last year’s awards, our collaborative Refugee Family Reunion Project was commended in the pro bono category. The winners will be announced at an award ceremony in London on June 20.
