Hagedorn focuses on commercial real estate transactions. He is well known for his ability to structure complex joint ventures and real estate-related private equity deals, guiding clients as they expand their investment portfolios and pursue ambitious acquisition strategies. He represents a wide range of institutional and non-institutional investors, funds, owners, developers and operators.

“Dan’s experience, skill set and client-service mentality have garnered him a substantial following from a growing group of sophisticated clients who rely on him for high-stakes, complex transactions,” said Paul Didomenico, chair of Reed Smith’s Global Real Estate Group.

Hagedorn regularly counsels clients on a wide variety of asset types, including multifamily, affordable housing, infrastructure, retail, office buildings, raw land, student housing, data centers, industrial, corporate headquarters and mixed-use projects.

One of Hagedorn’s most impactful California community-related contributions has been his work with United Way of Orange County, where he has provided groundbreaking pro bono services. Hagedorn played a critical role on two major United Way initiatives.

First, Hagedorn helped establish, from scratch, the legal documents for “United to End Homelessness,” an initiative that encourages and expedites the housing of voucher-dependent applicants by supporting the acceptance of voucher tenants by Orange County multifamily landlords. The program, which has been lauded as exemplary by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, has housed more than 1,110 people experiencing homelessness in Orange County.

Hagedorn also played a lead role on the negotiation of United Way contracts with Orange County and several of its cities for United Way to provide processing for more than $75 million in COVID-related federal emergency rental assistance throughout the county.
