SINGAPOREReed Smith today announced the recruitment of Charmian Aw as counsel in its global IP, Tech & Data Group. Charmian will be based in the firm’s Singapore office and will focus on data, technology and cyber law.

Charmian has extensive experience in assisting companies on Singapore data protection law compliance and enforcement issues. This ideally positions her to grow Reed Smith’s tech and data practice in Asia, where the firm recognises the growing threats faced by companies in an era of digital transformation and disruption.

Charmian’s recruitment is the latest strategic expansion for Reed Smith’s Singapore office, which recently moved to a larger office space to accommodate its growing team of diverse legal practitioners.

She was selected by Global Data Review in 2018 for its ‘40 under 40’ feature, which profiles people under the age of 40 from around the world who represent the best of the upcoming generation of data lawyers.

Commenting on Charmian’s appointment, Barry Stimpson, Singapore managing partner of Reed Smith, said: We are delighted to welcome Charmian to our growing Singapore team. She comes with a wealth of industry and market knowledge that complements our existing practices. We are pleased to add this important offering for our clients here in Singapore.”
