Reed Smith Client Alert

New UK consumer regulations are due to come into force on 13 June 2014 and will affect almost all UK businesses. This guidance note focuses on how the regulations will apply to businesses selling digital content over the Internet (including via a website, mobile/tablet device, games console or other Internet-connected device) such as downloads and streams of audiovisual content, music, software, apps, games and ebooks.

Businesses will be required to make various changes to their consumer journeys, terms and conditions, purchase pages and confirmation emails as a result of the regulations, and providers of digital content will need to be aware of specific requirements which go beyond the scope of the current consumer regulatory framework.

The guidance note explores the various requirements of the new regulations and provides practical recommendations for digital content providers to consider to ensure their service is compliant by 13 June 2014.
