Gold’s practice is focused on transactional, regulatory, data privacy and cybersecurity matters for health care and life sciences companies. She will co-lead the HIPAA and Health Privacy & Security practice at Reed Smith with Brad Rostolsky, a partner in the firm’s Philadelphia office.
“Kim has a wealth of knowledge advising clients on privacy and cybersecurity matters, accreditation issues impacting academic medical centers and teaching hospitals, and EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which will complement and expand our existing strengths,” said Scot Hasselman, who co-chairs the Life Sciences Health Industry Group. “We are delighted that she is joining her former colleagues from Norton Rose Fulbright, and our growing life sciences health care industry team.”
Gold counsels companies on privacy and security aspects involved in mergers and acquisitions and technology transactions, regulatory investigations, vendor management and incident planning and response. She regularly advises clients on privacy and security of patient information under state laws and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and has represented health care providers, pharmaceutical companies and medical device manufacturers on all aspects of data privacy and regulatory compliance, including issues related to mobile medical apps, wearable devices and telemedicine. Her transactional experience includes joint ventures and affiliations of hospitals, group practices and other provider entities. She also provides counsel to academic medical centers and teaching hospitals on graduate medical education issues, including accreditation and Medicare reimbursement.
"Health care and life sciences companies face unique regulatory risks and increasing cybersecurity threats, together with new and ever-changing health care and data privacy laws,” Gold said. “Reed Smith's strong and innovative health care and life sciences platform is well positioned to provide comprehensive services to clients in these highly regulated industries. I'm thrilled to join the team.”
Gold received her J.D. from the Fordham University School of Law, and her B.A. in communications from the University of Delaware.
“Kim brings diverse and extensive experience with the critical legal issues facing our clients in the health care and life sciences sector,” said Cindy Minniti, New York office managing partner. “With her knowledge of domestic and European regulatory compliance, she adds depth to the firm’s practice in this important industry group.”
