“Ian has extensive experience in all aspects of transactional related executive compensation matters,” said James Tandler, chair of the Reed Smith U.S. Corporate practice. “He brings additional depth to our growing private equity and corporate transactional practice, which is critical to support our clients’ most sophisticated M&A matters. We’re thrilled that he has joined our team.”

Sherwin is the second recent addition to the Global Corporate Group in New York with a focus on executive compensation and benefits. Daniel McClain joined the group in October, bringing experience in advising transactional teams on employee benefits, ERISA, and executive compensation aspects of business transactions.

Sherwin represents private and public companies and management teams in all executive compensation-related aspects of mergers and acquisitions, private equity transactions, reorganizations, financing arrangements, and securities offerings. With an extensive knowledge of the wide array of regulations governing executive compensation, Sherwin assists clients with agreements and compensation-related disclosures, design and implementation of incentive and bonus plans, and compliance with compensation-related tax laws. Reed Smith’s expanding private equity practice and highly regarded transactional practice were among the reasons Sherwin decided to join the firm.

“Reed Smith’s tremendous growth firmwide, as well as the expansion of its already substantial private equity practice makes this an exciting time to join the team,” Sherwin said. “With the current historic levels of M&A activity, the firm offers significant growth potential for my practice.”

Prior to joining Kirkland, Sherwin practiced at Ernst & Young LLP from 2012 to 2014. He received a B.S. in business administration from the State University of New York at Buffalo, a J.D. from Maurice A. Dean School of Law at Hofstra University, and an LL.M. in taxation from Georgetown University Law Center. While in law school, he served as General Litigation Bureau Intern for the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office.

“Ian’s keen knowledge of the critical aspects of executive compensation, coupled with his transactional experience, brings additional depth to our capabilities,” said Cindy Minniti, office managing partner in New York. “His practice complements our existing capabilities. We’re happy to welcome him to the firm.”
