Mawere focuses her practice on the defense of national banks and financial institutions in New York state and federal courts. Her wide-ranging experience in consumer financial services litigation focuses on the defense of national putative class actions, lender liability, consumer fraud, multi-million dollar fee disputes, and violations of federal and state consumer protection statutes and regulations. Mawere also defends non-bank clients in commercial disputes. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Mawere’s practice evolved to include counseling national and regional bank clients on garnishments (such issues range from the impact of pandemic-related legislation on processing of garnishments and levies to risk management in light of the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau’s recent enforcement actions in this space).

The National Black Lawyers is a professional organization that celebrates legal excellence and promotes attorneys as subject‐matter experts, facilitates the exchange of timely information to enable members to maintain their status as leaders, and represents a strong national network of top African American attorneys.
